Memo to Mr. Peck

TO: Mr. P, Engineering and Public Service Czar of Portsmouth FROM: P-Town Underground DATE: 1/22/2010 SUBJECT: The N-Word Dear Mr. P, We have heard from multiple City employees regarding your use of the "N-word" several times in your recent visit to one of the City's treatment plants. All the City workers are talking about it. JM has probably told you that City employees are backwards, racist hicks. Perhaps that is why you felt it was appropriate to use the n-word in describing African Americans. That type of language may be acceptable back in Lexington. However up here in the North, it is definitely frowned upon. You should use the words African American or Black, if you insist on describing your experiences with people of color. We also recommend that when you describe shoddy workmanship, you should use a phrase such as "jerry-rigged," instead of the term you used in the presence of City employees. Keep in mind that the President of Council and many City Employees are African American. If you hope to continue as a City employee, you should try to avoid using this word, out of respect for your fellow employees.

  3. "jerry-rigged" is offensive to people of german descent. maybe mr peck should have just said "substandard" and not maligned any group of people based on ancestry?

  5. Wow..... That's just not right...... I think Mr. Peck just lost all respect from most of his..... uh.....wait....? He's working for free?? He's a city employee?? Is the man getting a salary for a position that doesn't exist? Where does he get any authority? He isn't qualified to be in charge of the Waste Water Treatment Plant so what is the deal here??
Essentialy we have a man from Lexington Ky., touring the plant, telling people what to do, evaluating something he has no qualifications to evaluate and in the processs of all this he's insulting the workers of the city and council?
These people need to be taken in front of a Judge, thrown out of this fair city and sent back to Kentucky.
Oh.. another thing, a BIG thing. Does the Mayor still have a $2,000,000 suit against Portsmouth?? I wonder if she drops the case if she wouldn't have to pay for a lot of litigation time and money to the lawyers for the work that's been done so far. P-Town, you gotta tell her to drop the suit or be taken out of office.
There needs to be a civil suit brought by the city residents to force her hand in this dispicable situation.

Sorry. That's wrong. Any good dictionary will tell you that the term "jerry-rigged" is from the mid 1800's, and has nothing to do with Germans. The term Peck used was genuinely offensive. Nice try.
