Quotes from the Mayor of Crazy Town

Mayor Says Council May Ask Her To Pay For Renovations, or Resign (click here for original article) by Frank Lewis (Portsmouth Daily Times, 2/19/2010) Portsmouth Mayor Jane Murray is not just upset. She is downright angry at what she perceives as an attempt by members of Portsmouth City Council to have her removed from office. Portsmouth Mayor Jane Murray sits at a table in her office at the Portsmouth Municipal Building. She has to work off tables, due to the renovation of her office not being completed.

(That's odd. Didn't the former mayor have a desk? Wasn't it the same desk the previous mayor and the mayor before him used? Where could the old desk be? Did Jane use it for firewood to heat her office? Did Mr. Peck sit on it by accident? Did her former "Chief of Staff" take it to Detroit with him when he really realized he wasn't going to get paid? The people would like to know. Maybe, the old desk just wasn't good enough for our new mayor. Maybe she ordered a new one to match her new bathroom.) Murray said all that had been done in her office was to return to the original internal structure, uncovering the windows and going back to the original ceiling.

(That does not look like the "original internal structure" of the mayor's office to us. It looks like a new toilet and lady's vanity. Anyway, Mayor, who told you to "return to the original internal structure, uncovering the windows and going back to the original ceiling"? Doing that takes a lot of money, and it's council's job to appropriate funds. That's in the charter. You should read it sometime.) “By darn I’m going to work with the public so that this will not happen,” Murray said, standing in her office Thursday morning. “The public needs to know what this is all about.” Murray said she has become frustrated in recent days while attempting to work on the city’s financial issues, and yet having to deal with what she believes is going to be a request by Council for her to pay for the renovation of her office or resign. She also believes that if she does not resign, members of Council are going to actively work to have her recalled. ("Actively work to have you recalled??" Oh, no! That's pretty despicable, isn't it? How could they do something so terrible? You and your CAVE people cronies would never try to have someone recalled, would you? No, not you, by darn!) Jane, have you ever heard the phrase, "What goes around, comes around"? How about, "Live by the recall, die by the recall."?

  1. It looks as if the mayor if trying to restore her office to the original?? It is much more expensive to restore than to remodel. I wouldn't care if she had had the carpet cleaned and paintd the walls--even the heating unit I could have understood but what she has done is just over the top considering that we have NO MONEY!!!

  2. She is the one who ran her campaign on how this building was salvagable. Apparently she meant the mayor's office, and with loads of money. Also the city has a pothole patch machine. Why does she say we need a new one? Why isn't she using it? There are killer potholes popping up all across town and no move to fix them. Is she going to fake sick again tomorrow night so no one can ask her these questions? Or is her answer going to be "Peck will take care of this?" And why is she asking the State Auditor's office for legal opinions? We elected a Solicitor. She must not have liked his answer. Oh and one more thing-- I don't suppose she has handled that pesky little EPA problem yet?

  3. I don't understand why the mayor either lied about the pothole patching equipment or she hasn't got anyone in the city service department that knows what the equipment looks like. Who is in charge of finding that equipment and materials, They are all in stock and fully supplied to do the work....... Isn't anyone competent enough left in city services to recognize the equipment meant to do that job? Isn't Mr. Peck head of that department? The city has absolutely everything needed to repair potholes, everything!
Maybe she doesn't want to have her employees out in the bad weather..... HMMMmmmmm.......doesn't the water works repair crews work in extremely bad weather? How about garbage collection? She must not have much confidence in the workers if she doesn't think they are capable of doing their jobs safely in bad weather? These people have been doing this work for years!!!
Her constant attacks and innuendos directed towards city council have to be considered an endearing trait fully appreciated by the council members. I'm sure her way of denigrating these people is helping create a cooperative atmosphere. She obviously has never read “How to Make friends and Influence People” or any book on successful management style. Watching her work through her tenure so far shows she has no knowledge of management skills.
Until she realizes you don’t spit in the faces of people you are required to work with in a cooperative effort, I guess gridlock will be the order of the day come city council meeting night.
It is humorous how all of a sudden the "recall" issue is a bad thing in her office.....LOL!!!!!

  4. Is that granite I see on the vanity? Wow, how many homes in Portsmouth have a granite topped vanity? I am impressed. Madam Mayor is stylin'! I think it's nice of the fire department and police department to accept furlows to pay for it. You guys are awesome! Hang in there FD and PPD, she won't last long. I'm sure there is already a plan to recall!

  6. I think every public official deserves a nice place to work. As does every citizen. Let's secure the jobs and funds to keep things running. Now is not the time to remodel. Priorities, Miss Jane! You aren't working for Melbourne Drysdale. And this isn't Beverly Hills!

  8. Are you aware of how much a recall election costs? You want to complain of money being wasted? Look no further than a recall election.

  9. A recall election does not cost extra money if it is on the regular ballot. A "special election" (not on the regular ballot) would cost more money. City Council passed the emergency ordinance last Thursday, so there wouldn't be any extra expense.
