Update on Ohio EPA story:
In honor of professional football returning to Portsmouth this weekend, P-Town Underground presents the following football-inspired analysis:
Last week's Portsmouth Times (May 14, 2010) reported that Randy Nickles would become the new Director of Wastewater for the City of Portsmouth and that Jeff Peck, who has been the Wastewater Director, even though he doesn't know anything about wastewater, would be leaving city government.
On 5/19/2010, the Times reported "Mayor Prepares to Put City Back in EPA Compliance." The article reported that the EPA expected to receive the paperwork by the end of the week (today).
EPA has already begun the enforcement process to fine the City but they have put it on hold temporarily waiting for the mayor to put Nickles in the position.
However, Jeff Peck has still not been terminated from his position. He has told several City employees that he expects to remain as Wastewater Director until at least the end of June. Mr. Nickles can't be assigned to the position until Peck is removed from it.
All of this means that the City remain out of compliance indefinitely.

ReplyDeleteOne heck of a good analogy!! You should laugh and cry, because it is amazing the ineptness coming out of this city government. I would much rather have been fined three months ago and charged thiss woman with crimes, than let her continue her destructive path, get fined close to 2 million dollars and then still have to hope for criminal charges to rid us of this nightmare. There is no question in my mind that the citizens of Portsmouth will give her the boot at the earliest oportunity. The real question is how much damage will she be aloowed to inflict on our government.
ReplyDeleteMuch as I hate to say it, voters need to be punished with the consequences of their stupidity as an incentive to not vote for crazy people that will do stupid things that the taxpayer is on the hook for.
ReplyDeleteDecisions have consequences, and one reason why nutjobs like Murray and the neo-Marxist in the White House get elected is because there is a growing constituency of "zero liability" voters out there who take from the system and don't give anything back (ie: effectively pay no taxes).
Well, start losing those goodies because the city, etc is having to pay for the stupidity of the voter, and people are going to be motivated by their own self interest to not vote for destructive nutjobs.

ReplyDeleteShe doesn't appear to be very good at "paper work". Isn't that the reason the plan to improve the highway (Rt.52) between Sciotoville and New Boston was missed...she didn't file the paper work? Does she have to file paper work to send Peck on his way? Who is really in charge of wastewater..Nickles or Peck? If Peck isn't leaving until the end of June and he is not over the wastewater, what is he being paid to do?

ReplyDeleteI bet she's really good at "wall"paper work. She's hustling right now to make it look like she's capable of handling things as she knows the recall is closing in. Does she really think the roofjob on the City Building will last and be worth the money spent. The inspection done a few years back which included detailed picures shows the outside walls pulling away from the roof. Wonder if she even bothered to look at that report?
