Murray's Basketball Museum Fiasco (Part 2)

Earlier we reported on the tragic UK Basketball Museum debacle that Jane Murray was a central figure in during the mid-1990s (or what she likes to call "old news"), but which she still promotes on her website as one of the "jewels in her crown." (She did not address the issue at her press non-conference yesterday.)
The following story from espn.com reveals even more startling details. The University of Kentucky agreed to pay-off Murray's museum's "$1.2 million debt" by paying $100,000 per year until the loan is paid. (If your kid goes to UK, now you know what that latest tuition increase was for.) http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=3470465
Jane Murray had her hands on every aspect of this fiasco almost from its earliest days, when it was just an idea being promoted around Lexington.
We are still looking into the series of damning articles published by the Lexington Herald-Leader about Murray, and we will be presenting a complete timeline of her checkered career soon.
But one particular article from 1999 relates to Murray's claim to fame, the Basketball Museum. Due to her mistakes and mismanagement, the Museum appears to have been doomed from the start. As you read these and other articles from the 1990s, remember this:

  1. Keep up the good work, the good fight. The Mollete's and their band of misfits have had more than their 15 minutes of fame. Far more than their negative, self-absorbed,uneducated, and destructive actions as "Obstructionists in Chief" ever deserved.

These self serving miscreants have held Portsmouth hostage long enough. They have successfully put a stranglehold on the citizen's of Portsmouth for the sole purpose of feeding their own over-inflated egos, and in doing so, have kept the bona fide and sincere servants of the City (like Mike Mearan, Jim Kalb, Howard Baughman, Ann Sidnor and Greg Bauer, to name a few) from effectively leading the revitalization of the community.

Rather than bringing forth a positive agenda for the town, these vile people count as victories the number of hardworking councilpersons, mayors and other public officials that they have smeared, recalled or forced to resign. They revel in having successfully used scare tactics, misinformation and outright lies to convince the electorate to vote down the City Center; a project that would have provided the linchpin for bringing downtown Portsmouth back from the brink.

Thank God these people weren't able to focus their venom and irrational opposition and energies on the City Schools and the new athletic complex, as the complex would never have gotten off the ground.

It's time to give these people and their nefarious cronies the boot and give serious, well intentioned public servants like Mr. Mearan and Mr. Kalb the ability to serve without being bombarded by the vitriol and childish self-serving actions of Mollette and company.

  2. When can we expect the next news article from this site? Regardless of what a few people say the majority of the citizens are anxiously awaiting the results of your investigation. Unlike the Shawnee Sentinel and Moe's forum which is wild conjecture on the part of those writers, your stories are well researched, well written and totally believable. Keep us informed. Many have already changed their minds about who to vote for in the upcoming election, thanks to you.
